This week I listened to the record of my grandpa's teacher(史子明老爺爺) and listed some of the funny or remarkable things he had been through.
1. My grandpa was in jail for about a month.
He was sent in there because he was so poor that the police of the KMT government thought he was the spy that the CPC sent in order to let the people feel that joining the KMT will end up being poor like him.
Actually, at that time, many people was sent into the jail because of the same reason. Luckily my
grandpa's teacher (史子明老爺爺) was a friend of the police in that jail, so my grandpa was able to get
out of the jail and wasn't badly hurt.
2. After his ex ran away with all his money, my grandpa had to live with his teacher.
Because of his ex's emotionless(my grandpa let her control all his money), he had been through a really
tough life. The room which his teacher lived was quite small so the only place he could use as his bed was
the closet (壁櫥) and there were bugs everywhere in the room so they suffered from their bite. Although
living there wasn't a nice experience, they cherished the time they had together and being alive.
3. He never made it back to see his family.
My grandpa had told me that his last time he spent with his family was before he ran away from
Shandong. He had never gone back to his home even when the government allowed us go to China. He
was afraid that his sisters will be chasing after him for money and ruined all his good memories.(He only
send them money twice a year and never met them in person. ) He sometimes told me about his
grandmother, the New Year's Eve, and the delicious dishes he was only allowed to eat on special
occasions and he wasn't able to finish his story because he would shed tears to end the story up.

I also read some books but I didn't find them share the same experience with my grandpa because his
experience was a bit different from other people. Most of the books I read was about the students forced to join the miliarty as a solider but my grandpa was a worker in a factory(He had just graduated from high school) so he was able to avoid that part. I ordered a book called "山東流亡學生研究報告" and it's on its way. I hope I can find something useful in that book.
This part of his life is very poignant. We'll see how we can use it in our overall project.
