Topic: My Grandpa
Main idea: What he had done to make me feel that he is special from others.
Introduction: On 17/05/2013, my grandpa passed away. He had always been my hero, and he was always there supporting me. I had nothing to fear when I was with him. In order to commemorate him as a part of my life, I decided to learn all the things about him and the special experiences he had been through.

1. Main idea 1
(1)Topic sentence: My grandpa was a refugee of the Chinese Civil war and after he got to
Taiwan, he made to the NTU all by himself.
(2)Supporting sentences/ examples: He was brought to Taiwan with his school during the
Chinese Civil War. As a refugee, he had little food to eat, little money to spend, and almost
had no time to study. But his favorite thing was to learn new things, he learnt math, English,
Japanese......etc all by himself. At the year of 1950, he entered the NTU as a politics student,
but the next year, he changed his major from politics to history. He graduated in 1954 and
now his graduation thesis is displayed in the NTU's library.
2. Main idea 2
(1)Topic sentence: He took history in the university but later on, he became a math teacher.
(2)Supporting sentences/ examples: He first went to Wanshan high school(文山中學), and
that was also the first or the second year of that high school. Later on, he was invited to be
a math teacher in Jianguo senior high(night school), after the night school was cancelled, he
became a formal math teacher there. He had also taught in some private school to earn more
money because the teachers those days weren't paid well. After he retired from Jianguo high
school, he became the math tutor of my sister and me.
